60/100This quirky ecchi's short run-time turns it from a mediocre waste of time to a fine distraction.Continue on AniListSo....
yeeaaaaaah.
You might be wondering why I'm reviewing this anime. You might say that reviewing something like this might be completely pointless and that watching an anime such as this with the intention of reviewing it might suck the fun out of it.
You, dear reader, would be correct.
I will say that I was curious about this show ever since it was announced. But I should still stress that going in with even a bit of an analytical mind will probably ruin this show.
Now let's get to reviewing it.
This is a sentence title, literally translated to "I Want You To Make a Disgusted Face and Show Me Your Underwear." And there isn't a point to get into the background. That's the premise and it doesn't go any deeper than that. The anime has a second-person perspective (points for uniqueness, at least) where various women, as the title clearly spells out, are eventually talked into showing their undergarments while berating you, their faces twisted into grimaces.
It's pretty hot.
...and that's about it. It's ecchi, so nothing explicit is ever shown. Panties are the height of the show and if you're lucky, you might see a garter belt and/or stockings. I don't really like how in all the vignettes, the viewer is in a position of power (either permanent of temporary) and uses it to make someone who was kind towards us show us their panties. But hey, it's not my fetish and the show didn't convert me. That's fine. I'm sure this show is absolutely amazing to the people that get their rocks off to this sort of thing.
For the rest of us, there's not much that this show has to offer. The episodes are each around four minutes long, so we have enough time to know who the women is, make our request, then see her panties as she sneers at us. Since the episodes don't tie into one another, there's not much to take away and the episodes are too short to care about anything. Four minutes forces the show into a sort of sour spot for me. It's too short for any proper buildup and it's so short that the buildup that is there just comes across as a waste of time. Paradoxically, the run time combined with the small number of episodes prove to be the saving grace of the show. If the show was longer and was of the same quality, I'd have no qualms about calling this show bad. But as is, it's completely inoffensive. Sure, there are better things to watch, but at ~30 minutes to watch the entire thing, your day isn't ruined if you hated it.
Chances are you didn't, though. You saw the title, you saw the image. You knew exactly what you were getting into, and if you didn't enjoy it, you probably thought it was decent enough.
The character design was great and I felt the music disappearing when the women become disgusted was a nice touch.

40/100Why does this anime exist? This detective is on the case!Continue on AniListHave you ever questioned every decision you’ve ever made in your life? I sure have had those moments, and I have a feeling that the people who made this anime had one after it was all over, too. “Just what were we thinking?” they probably asked themselves. “For what purpose did we create this thing?” Believe me; my question is very similar to this one, and I’m determined to get it answered. Before I do so, however, I must state what that question is.
What purpose does the ONA known as “Iya na Kao sare nagara Opantsu Misete Moraitai” serve? Ladies and gentlemen, wish me luck in my investigation.
Let’s see.... I guess from stating what it’s about, it should give me a clue. It should be easy enough; after all, the only thing that really happens is that the Anime Girl of the Week makes a disgusted face and shows you - the audience - her underwear. Wait, no.... I can’t really put it that way, since the title literally translates to “I Want You To Make A Disgusted Face and Show Me Your Underwear”.... You know what? Just look at the title, and you’ll be able to discern the “plot” of this anime. (Oh, and it’s also in a first-person point of view.)
The reason why I put “plot” in quotation marks is precisely because there is no actual plot and only “plot”. Even when a story is attempting to be told up until the “plot” kicks in, it’s incredibly tedious and boring, to the point where even I couldn’t help but think, “Can we just throw in the panty shot and get it over with?” Needless to say, I’m disgusted at myself for having such a thought, but I’m sure that there are others who could think such a thought with pride. Maybe this anime’s purpose is to give “plot” to those who desire only it? No.... if they wanted “plot”, those people could easily watch High School DxD or Rosario + Vampire or any ecchi anime like those....
Okay, so it’s not the plot, nor is it the “plot”. Moving on.
Could it be the artwork? I mean, the girls look cute, so it’s a small possibility. However, the animation is just....meh. It’s not God-awful, but it’s not all that good, either. What about the sound, though? No, that can’t be it, either. The voice acting is pretty average, and the ending theme is so forgettable that even if it somehow gets stuck inside of your head, it won’t take much to get it out. The lack of background music isn’t doing it any favors, either.
This investigation is going nowhere.... I guess if I’m going to figure it out, I’d have to talk about the characters. First, let’s talk about the protagonist, who is - as you can probably guess from what I had said earlier in this review - YOU. You’re someone who is acquainted with these six girls - a maid, an idol, a nun, a shrine maiden, a nurse, and a high school girl gamer - and you’re also a pervert. Yeah, that’s all “you” are, no matter how many variations of “you” there are in this anime. All of the girls are pretty one-note, too; originally, their opinions of “you” are positive or neutral, but by the end of the episode, they see “you” as the sicko you are. Even so, they still show “you” their panties every time, calling your masochistic self “gross” or “pervert” the entire time.
Masochistic....? Oh my! I think I’ve got it!
Iya na Kao sare nagara Opantsu Misete Moraitai’s purpose is to satisfy the masochistic perverts with panty fetishes, nothing more and nothing less. Anyone who doesn’t fit into this category, please don’t watch it; I know that I fit into that category, and I didn’t find it too enjoyable. Anyone who DOES fit into that category, however, may be looking forward to season two right now.... WAIT, SEASON TWO?!?

9/100Shows for guys who like disappointing and being disgusted by the women around themContinue on AniListBurying the lede, this show is EXACTLY what it says on the tin. There is a woman, and you (the main character) want to see both her panties and her disgusted reaction to this situation. If the title and this premise sounded enticing to you then you can stop reading and go watch! Don't let me...spoil it? Have fun! Live your life! If you're still here though lets get into why I bothered talking about it.
Preface
Right now I'm learning Japanese on and off and decided to help with this, I'm going watch as much anime as I can when I have the time without any subtitles/with JP only subtitles. Its a good way to both test your retention of words you learned, but also pick up new words. Because the vocabulary is pretty similar within the same genre, I thought it would be a good Idea to mostly stick within the same genre. Right now that's slice of life/romcoms.
Watching a full episode of a show where you understand less than 20% of what was said can sometimes get exhausting! Moreover, when the stuff you do understand seems good, you get really tempted to go back and look up every single word which reaaaally slows down the process and in a way defeats the purpose. I found myself thinking that I needed to find something close to the same genre that I don't particularly care about, but also maybe something a bit shorter. To that end i found Ecchi short anime. You probably see where this is going.
Ecchi is not my preferred genre or anything, and in non-Ecchi series' I would usually prefer its not there. All that said I like boobs so I don't mind a good ecchi. And I love bad television so I also don't mind a bad Ecchi from time to time either. I watched Getsuyoubi no Tawawa S1, and just ran through a bunch of the recommended shows from it's page. And...here we are.
Summary
Every episode starts with a mundane establishing shot of your average every day life of the current episode's nameless Heroine(?). The heroines for (season 1 at least) comprise of a maid, an idol, a nun, a nurse, a shrine maiden, and a classmate. Going forward we will call any given episodes Heroine-Chan or (Insert Job Here)-chan when referring to a specific one.
The episode also goes over how the faceless voiceless MC slots into it. Because the episodes are entirely shot in 1st Person POV, the viewer is clearly meant to be self inserting here. As such going forward we will call the MC You-kun.All but one of the Heroines (Classmate-chan) seems to have a fairly favorable opinion of You-kun. They seem to be a person who they trust, or respect, or admire. In some cases some of their body language even implies they could potentially have a bit of a crush on you. The conversations are more or less 1 sided with Heroine-chan doing all of the talking. They try to capture the mannerisms and personality of Heroine-chan but frankly outside of maybe Classmate-chan, they're all extremely 1 note and unremarkable. You-kun is in fact talking as well, we just aren't privy to what exactly is being said. You can tell this is what's happening because of the long pauses that Heroine-chan takes to Look directly at the camera while doing nothing, only to go "eh?" and repeat what You-kun supposedly just said back to the viewer. The animation and voice work is around to below average, so it doesn't do much to carry the mediocre dialogue either. Its serviceable but nothing special.
About a minute or 2 into any given episode is when "The Turn"™ happens. "The Turn"™ is the moment we(?) all came here for. You-kun finally works up the courage to sexually harass the woman in front of him by asking her to show him her panties. If you take offense to me calling it sexual harassment, take it up with the show because I think at least half of the Heroine-chans said it. Like they REALLY want to drive home how unwanted this advance is. Like it takes some convincing too. Every single time there is some amount of back and forth. We zoom in on Heroine-chan's face as she jumps from emotion to emotion. Shock, Confusion, Calm as she assumes this was just a joke, quick pit stop to anger, then back to confusion until she finally falls into a Quiet, almost eerie, state of contemplation. "Ah, so this is the kind of man you were all along." She bakes in the disappointment for a while when she finally settles on Disgust. At varying levels of reluctance, but make no mistake it is ALWAYS reluctantly, Heroine-chan lifts her skirt or dress or whatever she's wearing today, berating you all the while, and finally shows her panties. She berates you one last time and we linger on the shot until we hard cut to black and then the ending.
Thoughts
This shit is fascinating to me. I personally am used to Ecchi being all about the body. We are showing off curves and underwear for the sake of arousal and going to ridiculous lengths to do so. I figured this would be more of the same but it is not. For one thing despite the title, You-kun seemingly does not ask Heroine-chan to make a disgusted face or anything like that. The face is just a natural and understandable consequence of the request. Despite this, the faces are CLEARLY the intended draw here. The panty shots themselves are okay. The art is fine and they all had designs that were unique when compared against eachother. Comparatively so much more care was put into exactly how and why these women looked at you like trash. A few of the final lingering shots you can't actually see the panties and are instead fully focused on this woman who probably hates you now.
I found myself thinking man this could have been an email. The entire episode really just needed to be the final face and the panty shot isn't that what these people are here for? But no, they wanted the full experience. The many many You-kuns out there wanted to see a Woman who likes them slowly grow to hate them. They want to see every emotion flash across their face, they want to see panties yes, but its the disgust that really does it for them. To put it simply, You-kun is a Masochist.
Truly fascinating stuff. I personally have nightmares about disappointing the people around me to this extent but I guess there are people out there who get off on it. Takes all kinds I guess! Well if you're into this specific scenario. You'll probably love this. Its probably safe to say you aren't going to get this experience in an anime literally anywhere else. If this doesn't appeal to you, this show has nothing going for it. The character designs are derivative, the plot is non existent, the conversations are boring, the animation is minimal at its best, there is not a single interesting camera angle in the entire runtime and the sound track is so unmemorable that I actually had to go back and check to see if they had more than one song (It did). I think there were only 2 things that this anime did well. First was just the disgusted faces. They were pretty decently expressive sometimes in subtle ways. Unironically took a few screenshots for my expressions art reference folder. The second was the directing decision to cut the music off completely whenever "The Turn"™ happens. That was actually a pretty inspired choice. It really sold the "Ah, this relationship is no longer salvageable." feeling. Both of these points being tied to appeal to the masochist fantasy is hilarious but at this point not surprising.
TL;DR
If you have some kind of humiliation kink/ get off on disappointing the people around you? Check it out.
Panty shot fetish? Skip to the end of each episode and take a screenshot.
Literally everyone else? Just skip you are missing nothing.
