DESCRIPTION
Tanaka Nozomu isn’t exactly brilliant. But, given that her only goal for high school was to get a boyfriend, who else would fail to realize that attending an all-girls school was a bad idea? Well, there’s always the fallback plan of getting other girls to introduce her to boys they know.
Too bad that Tanaka’s “bright” idea of giving her classmates nicknames based on less attractive character traits has caused her un-flattered friends “Robo” (for her apparent lack of emotions) and “Wota” (a reference to a creepy otaku types), as well as not-friends like “Loli” (who’s hypersensitive about her petite size,) to “reward” Tanaka with the special nickname of “Baka” (“idiot”), which is quickly adopted by the entire student body. Well, maybe the second week of school will be better.

80/100Hey, can I say something amazing right now?Continue on AniList_This review does not contain spoilers_ ___Yo... Mic check...___ These words came to bring a smile on my face week after consecutive week introducing each time episodes that marked the high point of the airing season. Joshikousei no Mudazukai (Joshimuda) is what I would consider to be a bonafide diamond in the rough. What at first glance appears to be yet another mediocre attempt at a playfully random slice-of-life comedy is a show that proves to stand out as uniquely its own with characters and dialogue that leave a lasting impression on the viewer.
Attempting to summarize the plot, or lack thereof here would be a disservice to this show. Certainly there is a valid argument to be made for grounding the characters, setting, and timeline in a plot that serves to bring out the best of a show. Conversely, the slice-of-life genre rejects the necessity of a strong plot by substituting in its place elaborate dialogue and skit-like scenes that accentuate all the best a show has to offer.
With this in mind, what makes Joshimuda stand out among its same genre competition is how it manages to so effectively maintain an interesting dynamic among its characters without its shtick getting old. Where anime such as Dumbbell, Working!!, and Hitoribocchi gradually suffer from repetitive personality traits losing their appeal, Joshimuda is able to build interest with each episode through characters and dialogue that contribute in spite of some repetition.
I have yet to mention a single character or event from this anime, and for good reason. Joshimuda is a 12 episode blitz of insignificant high school girls coming together to share seemingly significant moments. A glance at the official summary of Joshimuda will offer little explanation as well, only going so far as to summarize the anime as: "...the ridiculous days of three high school friends claiming (or not) the height of their youth." Indeed I feel as though this minimal background is adequate in summarizing all that makes it so enjoyable. I assert there is no point in having expectations from a show meant to so quickly and naturally have you experience all that it has to offer. With that, I give Joshimuda a strong recommendation to anyone looking for a show to watch.
Also the OP is straight fire.

90/100This is the daily life of extremely eccentric high school girls, all turned into an extremely good comedyContinue on AniList__Ok You're Baka Then!__ In the past one or two years, it seems that Comedy as its own genre has been getting a whole lot more attention than ever before (At least from my experience, don't take what I'm saying for a cold, hard fact). Comedy in the past few years had been sort of given the cold shoulder. It was that one seasoning you would spread on any kind of meal to make it more tasty, but never was a meal meant to serve that seasoning ever really made. After all, Shounen shines in its action, and slice of life shines in its drama and lessons. Comedy can only be there to add a bit of fun every now and then but that's it.At least that was until Hinamatsuri came around. Hinamatsuri, was, at least in my opinion, the first one in a while to have truly put Comedy as its main focus. Everything was there to make you laugh and other genres were only there to spice up the anime. And with the release of this anime followed more animes similar to this one. Of course I'm talking about Asobi Asobase, Chio's School Road, and now of course, Joshikausei no Muduzakai. And, _oh dear,_ was this latter one a genuine comedy if I've ever seen one. This show was simply the story of a single class at a Girls only High School. You might be wondering "Where does this get fun? How does this differ from your usual, trend of the mill, moe anime?". And see, the thing is, _this is a full on parody of this moe genre_. Every single character in the anime belongs to a stereotype, and the anime is so blatantly obvious about it that it actually names the character after their personality (Idiot type = Baka, Loli type = Loli, Emotionless type = Robo, etc..). But like I said this is a parody, so, konosuba-style, the show just took every single personality and amplified them to the point where they got ridiculous(Baka is way too much of a fucking idiot like it's crazy) and that's the major part of the anime, laughing at this over the top anime girls. But would it only be this, then it wouldn't have been as enjoyable as it was. The thing is just like any american sit-com you've probably watched, this anime's cast has great compatibility with each other. Usually you focus the cast around just a few characters, maybe 3 to 5, that you have finely prepared to be somewhat funny when put together. But this show brings you a whole other level, something I've only seen in the manga Horimiya before. Any combination of the cast works. The base group is Baka, Wota and Robo, but you can easily have a Loli-Baka duo that is just as funny, or a Majo-Robo-Wota, or a Majime-Baka, and all of them are incredibly funny. Of course each of them have their prime partners but they're so amazingly compatible that anything just goes. Along with that, this anime has some really good comedic ideas, where you can sometimes spend a whole episode watching a fantasy without knowing it, or some way over the top "I'm gonna fail my finals" episode. If you're just looking for a pure comedy then this is definitely the anime to go to for now. I'm just gonna add this part real fast to talk about a small point of the anime that I've realized that adds yet another side to the anime. See when I went and saw the characters for the first time, I directly thought "This is absurdly over the top", which is perfectly fine for a comedy anime. But as I was watching more and more of the anime, this thought somehow vanished, not because i was getting used to the characters and story, but because some weird feeling about the anime crept up within me, and that feeling was that the friendship and laughs shared by these extremely parodied girl felt way more "real" than any representation of friendships I've seen in anime. When watching an anime focused on a group of friends such as Kimi to Boku, while the characters are all quirky and such, Joshikausei no Muduzakai made me realize that this cast felt "too" normal. For some reason, mid-way through the anime, the cast of JK felt a whole lot more real than other casts that try to be more realistic. The characters are fully true with themselves, they do stupid stuff, they hang out and try their best to have fun, no matter how ridiculous the situation is, they're constantly laughing really loud, making fun of each other, helping each other out, treating each other poorly despite being friends, making any action taken or word spoken a way to start a joke, and somehow, this whole mess of a list, just reminded me close to perfection how my IRL friendships are. There are no "perfect" friends in real life, you're constantly poking fun at one another, even if it's about something personal. You don't speak of the world seriously or talk deeply about relationships with one another, you instead scream at each other like the morons you are over futile matters only to crack out laughing real hard at one point where you can't keep up being serious about this argument. And, however little or unintentional that little touch added to the anime was, these somewhat real interactions struck me deep and engraved this anime in my mind. I don't really know wether this is because my friends are a bunch of crazy semi-psycho drunkards, but this really felt close to home and added some warmth to the anime, which is why its score is pretty high. __Final Thoughts__ This anime is an amazing comedy, one of the few that has repeatedly made me laugh out loud. Be it its eccentric cast, the goofy setups and episodes, or just the simple school life they're leading, everything in it is to be loved in my opinion, and will therefore be considered a real must watch in my book. Hope this helped, and hope you'll watch this anime AngelArle
86/100A comedic story about High School girls and their highs but many lowsContinue on AniList(This is my first review so I’m still learning!)
Small Review (No spoilers): This Anime didn’t really surprise me too much in terms of what I was expecting but that didn’t stop it from being very enjoyable. None of the characters were unlikable and were for the most part used pretty well in the episodes. The comedy is well down though I didn’t laugh out loud as much as I expected to. I feel many will still find it very funny regardless. The animation could be better but outside of a few bad shots and moments, it’s fine for what it is. If you’re looking for something funny and haven’t heard of this one, then give it a try! My favorite character was Yamamoto (Yamai).
Full Review (Spoilers): I went into Wasteful Days of High School Girls completely blind. I had only seen one person I follow on social media watching it and thought it would be nice to give it a try. I got the blu-ray on sale for about $30 and have finally sat down and given it a watch. Reading the back of the box made me realize this was for certain a comedy and yep it sure is and thankfully this is one of the funnier ones I’ve seen.
The basic gist of this show is this trio of girls who used to be friends are reunited in a girls only school by mere fate. The story goes over their time as a first year in high school while also slowly showing off a lot of the supportive cast. There’s about 8 characters in the class that will become substantial characters for the series with two of them not showing up till about halfway through the series. An interesting thing about this series for me is almost everyone has a nickname with the first episode even being about what Tanaka’s name would be (the name was Baka). I’ll probably be referring to them by those names if I need to refer to them again.
One thing I can say right off the bat I really like about this show is the characters. Not only are the main trio of Akane Kikuchi (Wota), Shiori Saginomiya (Robo), and Baka pretty interesting to see their dynamic along with just how they interact with others but the supporting cast that gets introduced more after the first two episodes gives them pretty strong impressions. It’s also nice for the show to have some of them show up early so you’re not just only stuck with the main trio for the first couple of episodes. I gotta say that the three reminded me of the show Yuyushiki. Obviously they aren’t the same personality wise but there were times Wota and Baka interacting made me think of it.
I think my favorite character has to be Minami Yamamoto (Yamai) as her personality leads to many hilarious scenarios of just what she can come up with to represent her life Whether it’s her putting on stuff like bandages that’s actively damaging her body, climbing up a tree and not being able to climb back down, and even seeing her life in a different setting makes her investing to watch. I love how outlandish she is despite almost no one taking her seriously, especially Kanade Ninomae (Majime) and the homeroom teacher Waseda. In fact his interactions with her are really funny and I loved when they would do them after the credits. She doesn’t get too much screentime outside of Episode 7 which is her episode but that’s fine with me.
The other supporting cast are pretty good too. With the likes of the girl with a child-like personality Saku Momoi (Loli), the one all the random girls fall in love with Majime, the very gay who gets a rash from men Lily Someya (Lily), and the dark and twisted but also horrible at socializing Hisui Kujou (Majo). With the exception of Majo, the show does a good job of using them a lot and there’s many interactions with the main trio and even the other supporting cast that works very well. I could have some minor nitpicks like I feel like Majo could have been shown more but whether it’s episodes all about the character or just happen to be in the episode for a certain amount of time, they are pretty enjoyable and funny.
Alright enough of me rambling about the characters. The actual episodes are solid and work but obviously it all depends on if you find the writing funny. It relies a lot on wacky dialogue and humor or even specializing the traits of each character to match the comedy of the situation. The show never really forgets that it is a comedy even in the more serious moments late into the run which I appreciate. I won’t say the show is laugh out loud funny 24/7 but it can have moments. There’s even some twists I somehow didn’t see coming like how episode 8 didn’t even happen and was just a story Baka was telling via text as Wota continues to not listen. I think the visual aspect of the comedy could be a bit better, I always found it was at its best with characters like Baka, Majo, or Yamai.
The pacing is also done well and I was surprised how fast some episodes went by. Oddly some episodes take a little bit too long to end after the credits go by, it seems to happen more in the earlier set of episodes. There also isn’t really any bad episode but if I had to pick a least favorite it’s probably episode 9. I think Lily could have been used better and this is basically her last big episode and some parts like the random Yamai scene feel tacked on to keep the runtime going. It’s not even a bad episode for the record, it was just the one that came to mind as my least favorite when thinking about it.
I do appreciate the last three episodes being about the trio with even Robo getting her first episode about her. I was expecting her to not get one considering her type of dialogue probably wouldn’t be the best for a whole episode of comedy but they actually made it work. The other two episodes tackle the events for Wota and Baka pretty well and still are able to be funny despite also trying to get the viewer to feel something that isn’t just comedy. I kind of wish there was more than just 12 episodes but part of me also thinks it might have gotten a bit old after a while. Though considering the manga is still running, maybe not.
I think animation wise it could be better. It was done by the studio Passione who I didn’t recognize until I noticed they did Yuri is my Job! Honestly I wish it was a bit better in terms of the visual comedy aspect. There are times they do get creative, don't get me wrong but I also saw some scenes that made my mind think “That could have been executed a bit better.” Some might say it’s just part of the comedy and that’s fair but to me it could have been better. At least the characters themselves are designed nicely and the show does look decent but nothing that wows me either. At least the OP is pretty cool.
The music in the show is there, honestly I feel like a lot of times I don’t really feel anything when hearing it in newer shows. It might be me having a bias towards some older anime. I will at least say songs like the OP theme 輪!Moon!dass!cry!are a good listen even outside of the show. The voice acting is also pretty nice and even at times add to the comedy. I especially loved Wota’s VA Haruka Tomatsu as she really has a good range for some comedic bits. This anime is also dubbed but I did not watch it so I’m not gonna judge it at all, honestly this might be one of the better anime to watch dubbed if you struggle reading at a decent speed considering the many times multiple characters speak at the same time.
I was happy to enjoy this one a lot. It’s not outstanding or anything but it’s a very good comedy. I enjoyed the characters and comedy and I think that’s what matters in the end. Really I only put stuff like scores down because I have to. Stuff like this can be very hit or miss for me so I’m glad this one consistently stayed very good. I wouldn’t even mind reading the manga but since it’s still ongoing, I doubt I’ll ever review it sorry. I don’t really have much more to say so I’ll just end it here. Glad to have given this one a shot!
